Hanna Grodzka-Nowak was born on August 5th 1944 in Warsaw, Poland. She graduated from the prestigious Academy of Fine Art in Warsaw and became artistic director of children's magazine “Mis” (“Teddy Bear”) for the next 20 years. Since her early years at the magazine she was very active in the field of children book illustration, which soon dominated her artistic expression and placed her as one of the most important Polish artist of the genre. Hanna Grodzka-Nowak is an author of illustrations to many books of notable children writers such as Barbara Lewandowska’s "Kropka szczescia", Wanda Medynska’s "Panny Czirpanki”, Czeslaw Janczarski’s "Warzyla sroczka kaszke", Emilia Wasniowska's "Mili-lili-lawi", "Przychodze do Ciebie oraz "Powrot Wojciecha", Dorota Gellner’s "Zamawimy”, Sophie de Segur’s "Pamietniki osiolka" and Julian Tuwim’s "O Panu Tralalinskim".

Hanna Grodzka-Nowak is a laureate of many awards. Especially prized by the artist herself is "Odznaka Usmiechnietego Niedzwiadka" awarded by children for the most beautiful illustration in “Mis” in 1984. The crowning of Hanna Grodzka-Nowak’s achievements was a silver medal “Distinguished in the Arts ’Gloria Artis” awarded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2005.
